The reason why I love the Forest app is that it creates an opportunity for me to be 110% focused on my work. Forest is a timer app that builds trees while you work. It has an option I use all the time, “Deep Focus Mode” which means if you leave the app, your virtual tree dies. Motivating you to study more and create a virtual forest. You can also help to build real trees across the world depending on how much you’ve studied! Check it out here!

I love this app so much! It is the most reliable app to track my homework assignments and… IT’S FREE. You put in your classes and your homework and it will remind you when it is due. The reason I chose this over my calendar app or physical planner is that it keeps my calendar decluttered. You can swipe to the right on the assignment when you’re done and you’re on to the next!
I had a friend who didn’t have Microsoft products at her university, and she told me how she used Google services and could easily convert them into Word documents to turn them in. These are such amazing FREE alternatives to Word (Google Docs). There are other amazing alternatives to Microsoft products. Like, Excel (Google Sheets) and PowerPoint (Google Slides) and a digital to-do list (Google Keep). If you are looking for a free alternative that is easy to use, check out these google services.
I could rave about this app for days! It has become my new obsession because I can now journal, plan, track daily to-do lists and so much more using Notion. Please check out this free resource because it has been my favorite new way to take notes on my laptop since the Spring semester of 2020. You can also collaborate with classmates (up to 5 on the free version).
Music is essential to getting through life in general, but you may also need a good playlist or two for studying. I have used Spotify for YEARS and I swear by this platform. There is also… Apple Music… if you like that platform instead😅. Jokes aside, either will do and they both have a student discount for $5.99.
I love Spotify because of the dark interface, amazing song and playlist recommendations, and the fact that it comes with extra perks! Spotify’s student discount comes with amazing perks like a free Hulu and Showtime account for up to four years of you being a student.
My school app typically has my school schedule, bus routes, and many other resources that are beneficial to college students. So, check to see if your college has a school app! It can be extremely helpful navigating through college.
This is most likely the hub for all of your courses. Download this so you don’t have to go on your computer to check your grades, email professors, or read that article you forgot to read before your class starts. I love this app because it’s very easy to use and you can do everything you would do on your computer. Check to see if your campus uses Canvas or has a similar app for all of your classes!
Use your calendar app to track all of your events, meetings, and important dates! Honestly, planning is the only reason I get anything done while I’m at school. Hold yourself accountable by using a calendar app or get a really good planner! I promise you will be so much more productive in college by planning.
My favorite planning app at the moment is Google Calendar. It is perfect for time-blocking and organizing all of my events, assignements, and classes in one place.
Flashcards are one of the keys to success and memorization! Make study cards to study for your classes and take advantage of the functionality of Quizlet to remind you to study depending on how far away from your test is from today. Quizlet has saved me countless times and while I prefer writing everything down, Quizlet allows me to test myself on the material on the go.
GroupMe can be overwhelming at times, depending on how many things you’re involved in. But, most of your organizations, sorority/fraternity, class groups will require you to communicate with the group through GroupMe. Are there any other apps you use to keep in touch with your organizations?
Let me know if you want more apps that can be useful for students because I wanted to hit on the absolute essential apps I use almost every day. What other apps do you use for college?
