9 Genius Ways to Improve Your College Morning Routine

Something we can all agree on is that we want to be more productive. We long for less stress and anxiety throughout our days. Believe it or not, your morning routine can be a huge reason why you aren’t as productive as you want to be. So here I list 9 GENIUS ways to improve your college morning routine. Specifically designed for you to be more productive and fulfilled every. single. day.

One thing I need to mention is your night routine is just as important as your morning routine. You want to make sure you are getting ample time to sleep so you have the energy to make the most of your morning.

This post is all about making the most of your college morning routine!

College Morning Routine:

1. Wake Up and Don’t Get On Your Phone

Whatever you do, DO NOT get your phone as the first thing you do when you wake up. I can literally waste around 30 minutes to an hour scrolling through my feed and then somehow end up on some random person’s Instagram page stalking whoever for literally no reason at all (please tell me I’m not the only one who does this)! Then my morning routine is ruined because I don’t have time to do anything else but change my clothes and run out the door.

Steps 2-7 are solely for YOU. Much needed time alone to enjoy your morning, get things done, and prepare for the day.

2. Drink Water

Drinking water should be the very first thing you do when you wake up. While you’re sleeping, the germs and bacteria in your mouth multiply. So rehydrating immediately after waking up filters out many of these germs and makes brushing your teeth more effective.

Note: 1-2 glasses of water is perfect.

3. Make Your Bed

There was a poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation that found people who made their bed every morning were 19% more likely to have a good night’s sleep every night! The reasoning behind this is that such a simple task establishes a link to better productivity and overall health.

4. Morning Care
  • Brush your teeth
  • Skincare regimen + makeup routine
  • Change your clothes

5. Pray + Journal

Pray:

If you’re religious, pray! It is truly the best way to start your day. It’s a blessing to wake up in the morning because not everyone did today. I ask him to guide me throughout the day. I thank God for waking me up today, I ask him to keep me safe, and I pray that I have a great day.

Note: One of the easiest ways to read the bible is by using the Bible App (which is completely free). There are hundreds of bible plans that pertain to almost any situation you are currently in. And they can take as little as 10-15 minutes.

Journal:

I also use this time to write down things I am currently grateful for. If you are having trouble coming up with things to write, think about the basic privileges you have. You can talk about how great it is to get an education, being able to wake up, being able to get motivated to do more and accomplish more.

I notice that being grateful for what I have and who I am becoming truly comforts me. It also gives me the confidence to take on the day knowing that I have all I need to get everything I could ever want or need in life. By putting good energy into the world, you will receive good energy back 😉 .

6. Eat

Do not skip breakfast! One of my favorite breakfast meals to have is hot cereal (aka oatmeal with strawberries and a splash of milk).

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. This meal replenishes your supply of glucose allowing you to have the energy for the day and allows you to be more alert. Even if you just have time for a breakfast granola bar, don’t forget to grab it and eat it on your way to class.

7. Make a To-Do List

Write down three main tasks you need to get done that day. You want to focus on these three things and plan your time around getting these things done!

The reason for creating three tasks is so you can commit more energy to get them done. You don’t want to wear yourself thin assigning too many tasks for yourself. You want to stay focused and work to the best of your ability.

We have a clear to-do list and we know what we need to focus on. So you can check your notifications, make sure everything is ok. Then you can check your email to see if there are any important updates in class or people you need to respond to.

9. Grab your Backpack and Head to Class

All that is left is to grab your backpack, keys, and wallet. Head out and have a fantastic day.

Bonus Tip (optional, but totally recommended)

10. Listen to a Podcast

When I am walking (or driving) to class, I love to feed my brain positive and motivating things. So I listen to music or a really good podcast that pumps me up and inspires me (and sometimes just something that makes me laugh). Here are some great ones that I love listening to on the go:

  • Self-Improvement and Motivating
    • EmpowerHER
    • The Skinny Confidential
    • The School of Greatness
    • Optimal Living Daily
  • Comedy
    • Why Won’t You Date Me (Nicole Byer)
  • Educational and Entertaining
    • Science vs
  • Political
