#1 Transformative Guide On How To Do A Life Audit

Looking to make big changes in your life and don’t know where to start? In this article, I will give you a full breakdown tutorial on how to do a life audit. We’ll go over the benefits and how it can completely transform your life for the better!

First…. what is an audit?

An audit is an official examination of business and financial records.

Audits are typically performed to take account of current business processes to ensure the effective operation of that business or organization.

For example, if a business is losing money, the company will implement a plan to change the current processes to create new and improved routines to help the business thrive again.

Similarly to a business, when we aren’t performing at our best, we need to take account of every area of our life and create our own personal intervention plan to fix whatever problems we are facing. This is why today, you’re gonna learn all about doing your own… “LIFE” AUDIT!

What’s the purpose?

We go to school/work, get some food, go home, and go to sleep. We repeat this process daily and we’re constantly on the go without a moment to pause and assess how we’re doing in life and if we are on track to reach our goals.

I believe that if something in our life is not how we want it to be, we have to take accountability and put forth action to create a better life for ourselves. What a life audit allows us to do is take accountability for our current lives and acknowledge how we truly feel about every aspect of our lives.

How often do we actually take the time to do this?

If you’re like me, you rarely do.

The Life Audit Wheel goal is not necessarily to achieve all 10s because that isn’t realistic for anyone. Period.

The goal is to take inventory of where you are holistically in life, identify the areas of your life that you need to improve, and lastly, determine what structure and routines you need to implement into your life that will make you happier and healthier.

So let’s get into it!

How To Do A Life Audit

Before we start, print out the Life Audit Wheel worksheet that I have created for you by clicking here.

Even though it’s one of my favorite printables I’ve made so far, I have made it free.

I will NEVER spam you, and I send 1-2 emails a month with quality-packed information on how to plan, manage your time, and create the best life for YOU!

1. Shade in how satisfied you are with each area of your life.

There are 10 areas of life to focus on:

  1. Mental Health
  2. Physical Health
  3. Social Life
  4. Family & Friends
  5. Career
  6. Finances
  7. Physical Appearance
  8. Environment

Under each area of your life, there are 10 bars. Shade from 1-10 how satisfied you are with each area of your life. You can also add an explanation for why you gave the rating you gave for each area.

Make sure you take your time and really think about each area of your life holistically.

For me, my mental health has improved dramatically over the last year because I learned how to manage and reduce my stress levels and I also started medication for my eczema which has made me so much happier about my appearance. My social life has also been amazing lately. I have awesome friends and spend time with them regularly.

However, two things that are my lowest-rated areas include my physical health and my career. I love teaching and my kids (students) bring me a lot of joy and laughter daily. But, I want to switch careers and try something new. Beginning this transition has been a lot and a bit stressful. I also NEED to work out more and eat healthier so I can lose weight:,).

Here is how mine looks after step 1:

2. Put a star “★” on your goal number for each area of your life.

We want 10s all around, right?

But realistically, where do you want to see your satisfaction boost up in the next few months?

After doing this Life Audit Wheel I plan for the next three months intentionally to reach my goals. Join my email list to be notified first when I release my post about planning the next few months to reach these goals.

If you’re satisfied with your score, you don’t have to draw a star. But you can draw a star for all areas of your life if you want!

Here is how mine looks after step 2:

3. Write your top 3 priorities/areas of your life you want to focus on.

Lastly, you want to write which three areas of your life you want to improve on the MOST right now. Also, jot down what you would like to see improve in each of the three priorities. You could also write why they are your top three priorities.

How Do You Decide Your Top Three Priorities?

The easiest way to pick your top three priorities is to look at your lowest-rated sections. Mine were:

  • Physical health
  • Career
  • Finances

However, it doesn’t have to be your lowest-rated area of life. I chose my lowest-rated ones because they’re the ones that have been weighing me down lately.

If you have mental health rated high and you want to keep that as a priority, that completely makes sense. If your social life is one of your bottom three because you’re working on self-care or committed to growth at work, then it doesn’t necessarily have to be a priority right now. You can always adjust.

Just make sure you’re being reasonable and giving attention to the sections of life that have been impacting your overall happiness.

Here is how mine looks after step 3:

Tips To Create A Meaningful Life Audit

Create A Safe Environment

You want to dedicate 30 minutes to an hour to complete the life audit wheel. Make sure you’re in a quiet space where you can do a deep dive into every section of your life.

Be Brutally Honest

This is YOUR life audit, not your friends or family’s. Therefore, you need to be honest with what you think will improve your quality of life. Not what is projected onto you by your friends, family, and society.

No one needs to see this but YOU! I’ve shared mine to give an example of how to use the life audit wheel, but this is something personal. The only way to improve the quality of your life is to be transparent with yourself.

Do you have a healthy relationship with your family and friends?

Have you been having positive thoughts lately?

Do you ever workout or intentionally not eat junk food?

Are you satisfied with the money you’re bringing in? Saving? Investing?

This is the time to lay it all out there.

Revisit Your Priorities Daily

I will be releasing a new post this month on the most effective ways to remind you about your priorities daily. Some things to look forward to include a vision board, using your phone to make reminders, and more super helpful tips coming later this month!

What Are The Next Steps?
