I think sometimes we get so caught up in being productive that we forget to prioritize our mental health. Trust me, I have forgotten multiple times to put myself first in an effort to do better at work, spend time with others, or get better grades. But, it’s time we put more effort into building a productive morning routine that benefits our mental health. This starts with waking up in the morning.
While it is important to get things done, you also need to prioritize self-care first. Doing this has allowed me to actually focus more on my work, stress a whole lot less, and make time for hobbies and activities that I love. If you want to create the best morning routine for yourself, definitely keep reading because I think these morning habits will be perfect for you.
I am not gonna lie… I’ve had a pretty tough week emotionally and my thoughts have been toxic! This happens every once in a while so having a set routine to check in with you and check in with God is a special moment.
I know not everyone believes in God, but centering yourself in mindful meditation can improve your mental health. I spend some time reading a bible plan that pertains to my current challenges or goals that day that help me get through the day.
I also enjoy scripting which is basically writing in detail the reality you are currently attracting/that you want to come true. Writing things such as “I am grateful for an amazing and productive day. I am grateful for the new job that I enjoy and get along with my coworkers.” Literally, anything that you want to attract. It’s a powerful exercise for me because I am putting positive and confident energy into the world specifically for things I am working towards. It helps me remember my WHY. So even on more challenging days, I am reminded it is all for the bigger picture!
I enjoy taking this step first thing in the morning because I immediately fill my mind and spirit with good energy. And if you don’t want to do any of those things… I also enjoy an inspirational YouTube video. I’ll search for motivational speeches and click one randomly. If you get anything from this, starting the morning immediately with positivity is a must.
Make. Your. Bed. Omg! It is a great way to feel put together and prepared for the day! This is also amazing because when I come home from work or from school, I can shower and jump in bed. It makes me feel like I have my sh*t together and I love it.
Morning Care
I love getting these things done early so I don’t forget or procrastinate doing it. My morning care is a simplified version of my night routine because I have limited time to get ready. So, I will typically brush my teeth, rinse my mouth, and do a light face wash with a gentle cleanser. My nightcare definitely has more steps because I have more time. But for both morning and night, you want to make sure that you have a consistent routine that replenishes your skin.
This is in almost every morning routine you will read about, but it is important! This is typically the first thing that many people recommend you do when you wake up, but to be honest…. I need to brush my teeth first. If you don’t care, then drink a glass of water right when you wake up, but that has always been unnatural for me to do. So I chill in bed, do my bible routine, hop up and get my morning care done then drink water. It works for me, but definitely personalize it to make it your own.
I’m currently taking a couple of vitamins and supplements. I take a Feminyn (not an endorsement), which is a women’s daily multivitamin complex and I also take Iron, Vitamin C, and Magnesium because they support immune health! If you have any vitamins or supplements that support your health, make it a routine to take them in the mornings.
After getting essential morning things out of the way, I get dressed for the day. Something so perfect for my night routine is I have to plan out the things I will wear the NIGHT before. If you want to be even more on top of your game, make sure you pick out what you will wear every day of the week on Sunday before the week begins.
This is something I love to implement into my morning routine because it releases endorphins and gives me a little energy boost to start my day. Now I am not gonna lie, I am not typically happy-go-lucky about getting up and moving around… I’d much rather be asleep cozy in bed. But, this is something that I never regret doing after I’ve done it!
To have a productive day, you need to glance over your big targets of the day. I tend to have a daily to-do list that I prepare the night before so I’m not scrambling to see what I need to do the day of. Alternatively, you can have a running to-do list that you add to and check off what you can that day.
Let me know of other things that you do in your productive morning routine to keep you organized and ready for the day!
